lateral to main connection seal

The most vulnerable joint/connection in a sanitary or storm sewer is the WYE/TEE. This connection converges either one line or many lines onto one single main. Because of this, the fitting used is not designed like a traditional straight piece of pipe. There is a radius, to some degree, that is what makes the convergence from lateral-to-main possible. That radius is under constant strain in all directions due to is being connected to a main running one way and a lateral coming from another way. This strain causes joints to pull apart which ultimately leads to collapse. Lining these connections with a lateral-to-main connection addresses these strains. A lateral-to-main connection is a 360-degree wrap of the main AND lateral. It is inserted through a manhole and driven into place with our Schwalm sewer robot. The robot is able to clock (rotate) the seal into place via onboard cameras. Once in place, the seal is inflated and set to cure. Up to 18” of main and 20” of lateral is lined during this process. A lateral-to-main connection seal can be installed consecutively with a mainline CIPP or lateral CIPP installation, with overlap, forming a completely sealed & watertight system.
